A quick overview:

We like people, don't get us wrong. But getting AWAY from people is even better. It is for this reason that we like backpacking and camping the Wilderness and BLM areas of the Western United States. Because we are attempting to achieve a certain level of solitude, we typically opt for more remote and un-improved locations in which to explore. These locations are frequently found in the areas around the Utah/Colorado borders, New Mexico, Arizona and the Rocky Mountain high country.
